danger writing mass appealBack in my fledgling days of writing blogs, I made a faux pas of giving a client’s (rather technical) article an overhaul into language that was light, readable and accessible by everyone. What was once a very niche topic could now be enjoyed by all. I was very politely told that no, they preferred the original version, to suit what people in the industry expect. The original, in all fairness, was not bad – it wasn’t unclear, or inaccurate, it just wasn’t something that could be read easily by all. I’d allowed myself to get so bogged down in the swamp of content sharing, awash with this style gets more readers, snappy headlines get clicks and the immortal keep it simple, that I’d forgotten that not all audiences are the same – and not everyone had to read this article, only the right people. interview customer testimonial, case studyWhen I worked in media research, one of our most valuable commodities, as a company that put video cameras in people’s homes, was footage of customers singing the praises of a product in a natural environment. Short of trialling the product, what could build more consumer confidence than seeing real people recommending it to friends and family, without prompt? These beautiful moments were rare and difficult to come by, trawling through the hours of video footage, and riotous celebrations would shake the office when we discovered such a scene. Time for a May update! It’s been a busy month of work and networking for this Brighton copywriter. In addition to writing for a few casino blogs (paying a few bills and satisfying a little hobby), I donned my designers cap to produce the sparkling new fitness website KneeStrength.com, did a bit of teaching and editing, and am working on some new publications. There’s an English grammar guide, concerning all the English tenses, a business adventure book (more on that later), and, most applicable here, there’s an expanded edition of An Introduction to Business Blogs on the way.
